Issues Under Fire: In the Absence of Leadership & Oversight, Special Interest Rules
After observing Senate Lindsey Graham state he had no idea US forces were conducting operations in Niger, one had to wonder why. Because if he had no idea U.S. forces were operating in Niger he couldn't possible know why, what the mission is, how long that mission would take and how much would it cost. We're only curious about Graham's ignorance, because its his job to know. Lindsey Graham is on the Armed Services and Appropriations Committees. The Armed Services Committee is responsible for overseeing defense and the Appropriations Committee is responsible for overseeing the cost of defense. If anyone should know what's going on militarily in Niger, its Lindsey Graham. So the question of the day is, how many others in Congress are as clueless as Senator Graham?
This may be the most important question to ask in these dark times, because if those who should know what the hell is going on, but don't, then one has to wonder who's running the country? Clearly its not "45", because he's only capable of running his mouth. Clearly it's not Congress, because its too busy running for office over and over again. And since the judicial branch has no role to play in running the country, one can only conclude, nobody is running this country. The United States is leaderless, rudderless and soulless, and as a result has finally fallen prey to special interest.
Whenever there's a lack of leadership, special interest will fill the void. Hence, special interest is why Americans are asked to fight endless wars all over the world. But the endless wars are just the tip of the iceberg. Special interest is why Americans don't have affordable healthcare. Special interest is why Americans don't have access to affordable education. Special interest is why Americans are working harder, longer and for less money every year. Special interest is why America is denying climate change. Special interest is why the EPA is now rolling back regulations that protect America's fresh water sources and air quality. And yes, special interest is responsible for America's opioid epidemic.
Unfortunately special interest is faceless. It hides in the shadows behind legions of lawyers, lobbyist and pre-paid politicians. Special interest are rarely seen in public or on TV. Special interest operates anonymously from boardrooms, penthouses and private island estates, while shielding itself from those who want to know with the best private security money can buy. And with the money special interest has at its disposal, "We the People" may never know all it owns and or controls. Which brings us to another important question for today. How do "We the People" regain control of the country from special interest?
If you're thinking control of the country can be regained through the political process, you should remember special interest owns America's political process. So the idea of voting in a fresh group of politicians to represent the people's interest would be ludicrous to say the least. No, the solution has to found outside of the box of choices currently available. And no, we're not suggesting a bloody revolution. We have to be far more cerebral than that. And we will be, because we think we have the solution to America's special interest problem. Unfortunately, our solution is too complicated to explain in a few more paragraphs, so you'll have to return tomorrow for our conclusion and the bottom line. Podcast below
