Issues Under Fire: With Zero Credibility "45" Cites Questionable Facts to Decertify Iran Nuclear Deal
Reading from a script that could've been written by the Israeli government (and likely was), "45" accused Iran of being state sponsors of terror. He called Iran a corrupt dictatorship that engages in worldwide espionage. He called Iran's Islamic Republican Guard Corp a terrorist organization and called on congress to sanction the IRGC for being a menace to the region and a threat to the world. "45" said all these things and a whole lot more to mask the fact that the United States was once again reneging on its word.
With the entire international community watching, Donald Trump left little doubt, that for the foreseeable future, the United States is not an entity to be trusted or dealt with concerning any issue of consequence. It's become painfully obvious the United States has a credibility problem that's crippling its ability to be taken seriously by anyone. Considering Donald Trump has been proven to be a pathological liar, when he stated Iran had violated the multilateral nuclear deal on more than one occasion, we had to check with the authorities who'd know the truth.
According to the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), the organization responsible for verifying Iran's compliance, Donald Trump is twisting the truth so recklessly, it can't be considered anything but a pack of self-serving lies. Since the agreement went into effect in January, 2016, the IAEA has issued eight reports on Iran's compliance and all eight reports have concluded Tehran has met its obligations. So who is the world to believe? Does the international community accept the word of a proven liar or does it accept the findings of independent international nuclear inspectors with nothing to gain or lose but their reputations? Obviously, we're siding with the latter. Unfortunately, this story goes deeper than a pack of lies.
Given the fact that many factions within America's heavily lobbied congress wanted to scuttle the deal from its inception, no one should be surprised this outrage is happening. Former President Obama took serious heat from both Democrats and Republicans, loyal to the state of Israel, on this issue. So much so, they invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of congress to rally them against their own president. Yes, while the Obama administration negotiated with Iran, France, the Brits, China, Russia and Germany, he was publicly humiliated and undermined by his own Congress, as that heavily lobbied congress sided with Israel against him.
While many may have yet to connect the dots, the astute international observer saw the writing on the wall years ago. At every U.N. General Assembly meeting since the Iran deal was made public, Iran became the hottest issue on the agenda. No matter what else was going on in the world, somehow Iran was "The Global Threat" to be confronted, countered and contained. Iranians were religious fanatics that wanted to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Iran wanted nuclear weapons so they could strong-arm regional neighbors and one day strike America. Run for your lives, the hype said, it's the the dreaded Islamic Revolutionary Guard and they're coming to strangle your children in their sleep. The rhetoric knew no bounds.
Bottom line: Fortunately, the rational and reasonable within the international community can see through the smoke and mirrors of war and fear mongering. They've tired of military options and crippling economic sanctions being waved around so irresponsibly. Be it Iran or North Korea, those of us with a worldview are looking for alternatives to U.S. threats and intimidation as its primary approach to diplomacy. We can do better and we'd better do it soon. Podcast below.
