Issues Under Fire: How Trump Escaped Accountability for His Alleged Sexual Misconduct
If you've been paying attention to the news over the last month, you couldn't possibly escape the onslaught of accusations of sexual misconduct by wealthy, well connected and powerful men. Not a day goes by anymore without fresh names being added to a long list of famous actors, politicians and other power-brokers who've been accused of lewd and lascivious behavior toward women, children and yes, even men.
The most recently accused include Sly Stallone, Jeffrey Tambor and of course, Senator Al Franken. So, we were wondering why Donald Trump, the richest and most famous man to occupy the Oval Office, has gotten a pass. After all, he was captured on tape bragging about grabbing a women's P***y. And if that ain't lewd and lascivious behavior, nothing is. So, we thought it might be helpful to explore this issue with some depth today.
According to an article at Vogue.com, Ivanka Trump says she believes Alabama Senate hopeful Roy Moore's accusers. Trump's daughter even went on to say there should be a special place in hell for people who behave like that. According to Ivanka, "I've yet to see a valid explanation, and I have no reason to doubt the victims’ accounts.” But, since Donald Trump's list of accusers actually doubles that of Moore's, one has to ask what explanation did Ivanka's father provide that convinced her he wasn't creep? One has to wonder how that conversation went. Actually, one has to wonder if that conversation ever took place. Think about it. That had to be a most awkward situation, to say the least.
According to an article in The New Yorker, Donald Trump has been accused of forcible touching, groping, exposing his genitals and yes, even rape. If it was anybody else, no matter how rich and powerful, they would've been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion and off to an expensive sex addiction resort while their expensive lawyers worked feverishly to get their names off the front page. They'd be biting their fingernails to the quick, wondering when Gloria Allred would be holding a press conference to announce a lawsuit.
However, when it comes to Donald Trump, not a peep. Even though 68% of those polled answered in the affirmative when asked if they believed Donald Trump sexually harassed and assaulted women, for some yet to be discovered reason, his accuser's accounts never generated the attention that others have. Hell, even Bill "Slick Willie" Clinton got busted.
But, if one believes the old adage that, "timing is everything", then perhaps Donald Trump simply dodged a bullet because his accusers told their stories before the Harvey Weinstein revelations. Perhaps, if allegations of Trump's sexual aggressions had come to light during the current feeding frenzy of eye-popping tales of rich and famous men playing grab-ass with the peons, those allegations might have gained more traction. The nation, and the world for that matter, might be having an entirely different conversation. Talk about a teaching moment for the next generation of gropers. Unfortunately, the way things seem to be progressing, that may never happen.
Bottom line: No matter what you think of Donald Trump, you must admit he's been able to get away with just about everything. Whether it's cheating business associates, lying to the American public, bullying on Twitter or shoving his tongue down the throat of some unsuspecting young woman, he escaped being held accountable for anything. Perhaps our only hope is that his daughter, Ivanka, is correct. There is a special place in hell for people who behave like that. Podcast below.
