Nearly a year after his inauguration, many Americans are still scratching their heads and racking their brains trying to understand how Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election. They're still asking themselves why anyone would've voted for a racist, a misogynist, and a con man. It's not as though these descriptors are breaking news. Donald Trump's flawed character was thoroughly documented and well known to the average voter long before announcing his intent to run for the presidency, yet he won anyway. So, after almost a year into this madness, you have to ask yourselves, how did this happen? What if crimes were committed to getting Trump elected? If so, we need to solve it. So, let us try.
In order to solve a major crime, it's always a good idea to gather the facts. So, we'll start with what we know. We know the United States rebounded well from the financial crisis left by the George W. Bush administration in 2008. We know the United States repaired its international reputation after ending direct combat operations in Iraq in 2011. We know relations with Iran was significantly improved when a deal was reached over Tehran's nuclear ambitions in 2015. We know the United States was in good standing with the international community when President Obama left office last year. And by all accounts, America had regained its stature as a trusted world leader and its only superpower. So, WTF Happened?
In short, Donald Trump is what happened. And that's a fact. Since day one of the Trump administration, it almost seemed as though everything the world had come to love and believe in America no longer meant anything anymore. Overnight, the United States redefined itself as a hard, selfish, mean-spirited elitist. The new message to the world became, America comes first because it has the economic and military power to enforce its new rules of engagement. All others must get in line and do as they're told. End of story.
Now, while this brash in your face style went over big with Trump's base support, the vast majority of Americans, as well as the international community, was left dismayed and disappointed. Needless to say, Donald Trump isn't nearly as likable as his predecessor, Barack Obama. Still, this is a clue and it may be the only one we need. When solving a crime, basic sleuthing requires the unmasking of those who had the means, the motive and the opportunity to get someone like Donald Trump elected. So, if you've been wearing your thinking caps and following the Mueller investigation, you'll be within reason to presume Russia is the prime suspect to point the finger at.
Let's face it, Russia is the only foreign entity (save for the Israelis) with the means, motive, and the opportunity to psychologically profile Donald Trump. And in doing so, they would've uncovered a treasure-trove of intellectual deficiencies, character defects and personal idiosyncrasies that would prove destructive to the United States. What if Russia knew Donald Trump was as moronic and idiotic as his closest advisors have come to realize? What if they knew Trump was as ignorant and ill-informed about world affairs as he was about U.S. domestic policy? What if they knew Trump had a short attention span, was egotistical and a racist at heart? With a profile like that, it'd be only a matter of time before the United States would be the most hated nation in the world.
Bottom line: While the intelligence experts struggle to understand how Vladimir Putin got Donald Trump elected president, as well as who was involved, we're almost certain we know why. Vladimir Putin wants to be more than a mere regional power. Putin wants to make Russia great again. Putin yearns for international respect and prestige. But none of that can happen as long as a strong, internationally engaged America stands in his way. In order to realize his dreams of Russian greatness, the United States must be taken down a notch or two. And getting Donald Trump elected was the first step toward making that happen.
