Issues Under Fire: The Ghost of Anne Frank Lives in America
In sanctuary towns, cities and states across America, men, women, and their children are going into hiding. The lucky among them will be assisted by Americans of goodwill, compassion and incorruptible principals who understand the plight of the undocumented. These Americans will do what they can to offer a safe space for Dreamers and their parents to avoid detection by the authorities. With money from their own pockets, these Americans will provide food, shelter, and comfort to people they don't even know very well. And they'll do these things because down deep in their hearts, they know right from wrong. These are the brave, strong heroes who'll expect nothing in return for their help other than thank you.
Unfortunately, America is Hell. Of this, I am sure. And in Hell, no good deed goes unpunished. Big city mayors, state governors and people of faith who've chosen to protect the undocumented by offering them sanctuary will eventually face the wrath of the authorities. Led by a racist in the White House, they are given the power to restrict federal funding and place significant sanctions against any city, town, state or church that refuses to comply. The pressure will test the resolve of the humanitarian resistance. That pressure will be applied to divide and break the will of that resistance.
Fence sitters will be the first to break ranks when they realize their taxes could go up to cover the cost of defying the authorities. They'll be exposed to the constant messaging of the "Make America Great Again" campaign. The fence sitters will be susceptible to "see an undocumented, call the authorities; suspect an undocumented, call the authorities; know someone helping an undocumented, call the authorities". After all, undocumented people are taking American jobs. They're lowering American wages. And worst of all, they're committing horrible crimes in American communities. Drug dealing, raping White women and leaching off the nation's welfare system. You know, all the things they say about Black people.
But if those tactics fail, the authorities can and will eventually criminalize the humane, by penalizing those who offer safe harbor to the undocumented. They could be penalized for not reporting an undocumented person the minute they become aware of their status. An employer who realizes an employee's right to work in America has expired could face fines or even jail time for not complying with the law. And the law will be very clear. Give them up or pay the price. Faced with such severe consequences, many will acquiesce. While they may not rat out the undocumented directly, they'll sorrowfully ask them to leave. The guilt they'll live with will only be mitigated by the innate need for self-preservation. And until you've faced the full weight of American laws, you'd be wise not to judge.
Still, there will always be those who'll never rat or run and be willing to resist to the end. These are the principled ones who'll recognize the authorities for who and what they really are. They'll see them as the government's paid flunky monkeys. Given a badge, a gun, a license to kill with great benefits and a generous pension plan, they'll follow their orders without question. Any orders. They've tasted the Kool-Aide, they've been bought and paid for. They're the guardians of Hell's status quo. These are the soulless creatures who've convinced themselves they're American patriots. Besides, they too, are driven by the innate need for self-preservation. Working for ICE puts food on their family's table. For many, this is the best job an ICE agent has ever had or will in the future. They're simply doing whatever they've got to do to survive in this place we now know as Hell. Sure it's dirty work, but Hell pays well.
Bottom line: The drop-dead date for Dreamers came and went in virtual silence. The politicians are speechless and the mainstream media has moved on to other stories. Sexy stories like the porn stars who were handsomely paid to pleasure the president or the latest celebrities accused of sexual misconduct. But hidden behind that cheap, useless gossip masquerading as news you can use, lies the truth. The authorities are now free to hunt the parents of Dreamers down like mad dogs in the night. ICE agents will be lurking around schools, churches, food pantries and hospitals looking to fulfill their quotas. And with every capture and cuffing, there will be high fives all around and a few beers to celebrate the successful raid. That's America. That's the Hell we live in these days. Podcast below.
