Issues Under Fire: Hillary Clinton Responds to the "Shut up and Get Off the Stage" Movement
At the risk of repeating myself, I'm compelled to revisit and readdress the reasons Hillary Clinton lost her election bid to Donald Trump. I say compelled to revisit and readdress, because Hillary Clinton refuses to move on, spend more time with her beautiful family and leave the future to political futurists, visionaries, and progressive thinkers. Earlier this week, Hillary Clinton spoke at the Rutgers Athletic Center in New Jersey, where she was asked why she continues to make public appearances when people are saying "Shut up and Get Off the Stage". Her response was as blunt as it was delusional: "They never said that to a man who was not elected". Clearly, Clinton remains in a state of denial, so I found it necessary to resurrect the past to keep the record straight.
While misogyny may have played a role against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, it was an insignificant role at most. What Clinton fails to understand, accept and acknowledge is that she's seen as a throwback to a Democratic Party many Liberals, Progressives, Independents, as well those who no longer identify with any political Party, simply want to forget. These voters view Hillary Clinton as a minimalist for political and economic policy change when they're seeking revolutionary changes. The staunch support for the Bernie Sanders revolutionary alternative was undeniable evidence of this. Besides, Hillary Clinton was tagged as a corporate Democrat when the Left was moving toward a grassroots identity. Not convinced? I got more. Let's take a walk down memory lane.
Hillary Clinton wanted to improve Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, and God knows it needed it. But the prevailing view of the Progressive movement was to take the next logical step toward universal healthcare, the single-payer system approach. You remember, Medicare for all. They've seen how efficiently, effectively and affordably that system of healthcare delivery works in every other developed industrialized nation in the world. Lower costs and better outcomes. The Progressive movement was all about separating the insurance industry from the concept of healthcare. In other words, eliminating the middleman from the equation. This idea was simple to understand and hard to deny. But Hillary Clinton refused to embrace it.
Hillary Clinton wanted to reform how banks and other lending institutions serviced student loans. Clinton was promoting better customer service practices by cracking down on predatory schools, lenders and bill collectors. And to be fair, Clinton also presented a plan for student debt refinancing, protecting the credit of loan defaulters until they're capable of making payments again, as well as significantly cutting interest rates to provide additional relief to borrowers. Still, no matter how many times you read the fine print, you won't find language touting free college tuition for EVERY AMERICAN seeking higher levels of education, as a right and an investment in the future. That's what Progressives wanted. Not better terms and service. But what else could one expect from a corporate sponsored candidate?
Hillary Clinton’s record as a military hawk is legendary. Clinton voted for the Iraq War as a senator. As Secretary of State, Clinton pushed for U.S. intervention in Libya. Clinton lobbied President Obama to take military action against Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Thank God he didn't. And Clinton was never completely onboard with President Obama's internationally negotiated nuclear deal with Iran. But it gets worse. Hillary Clinton gave a major policy speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) without a word acknowledging the plight of the Palestinians. And Bernie Sanders, son of Jewish immigrants, brought that damning omission to the nation's attention during their debate in Brooklyn. And when I recalled how Clinton ignored the Occupy Wall Street and the Fight for $15 Movements, I was ready for the bottom line. So, here it is.
Bottom line: Progressives, Independents and "WOKE" Democrats are looking at Hillary Clinton in the rearview mirror, and happy to be moving in the opposite direction. To those with a clear view of tomorrow, Hillary Clinton is like a horror movie with a never-ending ending. She's an everlasting reminder that Hell is still hot. Perhaps the "Shut up and Get Off the Stage" movement should amend its slogan to read STFU and GTFO of our lives. Anything less and she'll remain in denial. Call it Tough Love. Podcast below. And BTW, we'll return to the future on Monday.
