Issues Under Fire: End of Times, N. Korea, Iran & Donald Trump
Last week the world was warned to prepare for the end. The planet would be no more. Religious fanatics had once again predicted the final chapter in the history of humankind. It was to happen today. And they even told us how the end would occur. According to these screwballs, Planet X, aka Nibiru would come crashing into earth fulfilling a prophecy in the Book of Revelations. And if you wanted to be saved, you had to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. If you were in God's good graces, you'd be good to go. Raptured, that is. If not, you'd be toast with all the other heathens, nonbelievers and the faithless. Well, as you can see, there ain't even a cloud in the sky today, let alone a rogue planet headed this way.
Still, even a heathen such as I will acknowledge the end could be near. After all, as long as Donald Trump has access to the nuclear codes, planet earth as we know it is in serious danger. Donald Trump is a troubled man. His state of mind is questionable at best. Trump is under a tremendous amount of pressure and that pressure is growing exponentially every day. Facing unprecedented legal issues, infidelity issues, credibility issues and anger management issues, Donald Trump could break at any time. And if that happens, few would be surprised. In fact, many have been wondering what's kept Trump from going off the deep already. Perhaps he's being medicated. Perhaps his Tweets are a source of release. We may never know until it's too late.
Think about it. Donald Trump is as vain, conceited and self-centered, as he is insecure. These descriptors can be a dangerous combination of character traits for someone who may come to realize he's being laughed at. And at this point, behind his back, that's precisely what other world leaders are doing. None would openly say anything, because Donald Trump is also hypersensitive to criticism and extremely vindictive. If Trump knew what the world really thought of him, he could do something crazy. So, the fact that North Korea's Kim Jong-un will likely make a complete ass out of Trump on the world stage during these upcoming nuclear negotiations should be a major concern. No one can predict how he'll respond. Will Trump politely leave the talks and continue the sanctions if events don't go his way, or will he order a preemptive strike against Pyongyang to show the world who's the boss?
If the potential crises were limited to North Korea, perhaps the world could cross its collective fingers and hope for the best. Unfortunately, North Korea is only the tip of the iceberg. Next month, Donald Trump has to re-certify the Iran nuclear deal. Certification is an acknowledgment that Iran has kept its end of the bargain. The IAEA, (International Atomic Energy Agency) is responsible for monitoring Iran's compliance and to date, they've consistently reported Iran showed no signs of cheating and have been fully cooperative with all independent inspections. Keep in mind, this is a deal agreed upon by the Obama administration and the other permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany. The agreement was heralded as a huge step toward a peaceful resolution between Tehran and Western powers. However, Trump being Trump, he thinks he can get a better deal. Not so, says the rest of the world.
Sadly, "A Deal is a Deal" is not a concept Donald Trump subscribes to. The E.U. is worried Trump will renege on the deal like he has with most of Barack Obama's international agreements and commitments. From the Paris Climate Accord to NAFTA, to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Donald Trump has either walked away or demanded to renegotiate the terms. In fact, French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting the United States this week in an effort to talk some sense into Trump's fickled and feckless mind. To tear up the Iran deal could have catastrophic consequences. The Iranians are already on record for reestablishing their nuclear program to full capacity if the agreement is broken. Simply put, that could mean war. Tehran, like Pyongyang, won't back down. It's a matter of national pride. But wait, it gets worse
Considering Donald Trump recently appointed the blood-lusting John Bolton as his latest National Security Advisor, he now has a hard line warmonger whispering in his ear. A man infamous for his advocacy for military aggression over diplomacy, multilateral negotiations or the recognition of international laws, he could have Trump eating out of his blood-stained hands in no time. Bolton, a rabid supporter of the Iraq war, escalating the fight in Afghanistan and mixing it up with Russia and Iran in Syria, there's no end to the possibilities of a global conflict jumping off between the world's most lethal adversaries. And, to what end? That's impossible to say since the future of our planet currently rests on the hinges of an unhinged mind.
Bottom line: If you got up this morning, smelled the fresh coffee brewing, the fresh flowers blooming and a beautiful spring breeze blowing like I did, you can relax and enjoy your day. If the world is going to end, it won't be because of Planet X slamming into earth causing some cataclysmic crisis, "The Likes of which the World Has Never Seen Before." No, if the world is going to end, you can bet it'll be because a weak-minded madman collapsed under the pressure. Donald Trump is NUTZ! That's a fact. So, it can only be a matter of time before he cracks. Podcast below
