Issues Under Fire: If DACA is Dead, What Happens Next?

Issues Under Fire: If DACA is Dead, What Happens Next?
On one of the holiest days of the year, the so-called leader of the so-called free world announced "No more DACA deal." Pissed off beyond measure due to his inability to fund the border Wall, Donald Trump lashed out in a series of angry Tweets blaming Mexico for not doing enough to stem the flow of illegals into the United States and Democrats for doing everything they can to keep illegals here. "Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their jobs because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch and Release. Getting more dangerous. 'Caravans' coming. Republicans must go Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL! -Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 1, 2018". So, the questions to be answered are, what does all this mean going forward? And what's the message to the rest of the world?
Well, lucky for you, I've got a theory and if I'm reading the tea leaves right, it means the nightmare Dreamers are living will continue indefinitely. It means Dreamers have just become low hanging fruit for eager ICE agents on the hunt for anyone without valid proof of U.S. citizenship. Without DACA protections, Dreamers are now as exposed to arrest, detainment and deportation as their parents who brought them here. So, what can they do? That's a tough one because the laws are clear and tightly constructed. Where can they go? That one is even tougher because to become a Dreamer, you had to come out of the shadows. The authorities know where you live, work and go to school. Who can they trust? That one's easy. NOBODY! The smart ones will go into hiding early.
Sadly, now that hope and humanity have been exposed as a cruel myth since the election of Donald Trump, the options for Dreamers and the undocumented population are few and shrinking every day. But even sadder, is my second theory. Right Wing elements in many nations around the world seem to be following Donald Trump's lead. Refugees and immigrants are becoming dirty words. Refugees and immigrants are burdensome, they're intruders and infiltrators. But mostly, they're different. And different is bad. Different is scary. Different is hard to understand. The languages, the religions, the cultures and especially the colors can be difficult to accept, let alone embrace.
Israel, America's closest ally, is in the process of forcing the deportation of 40 thousand African refugees. Given a choice of jail if they don't accept a few shekels and leave voluntarily, many are facing the same dilemma as America's Dreamers. In fact, the Washington Post highlighted some alarming similarities to Trump's inhumane immigration policies to that of what's happening in Israel. The Post focused on Sudanese youngsters who fled war with their families as tots seeking asylum and ended up growing up in Israel. Many know little if anything about where they came from. They speak Hebrew. They want to be Israelis. But as similar as their stories are to America's Dreamers, so are their fates. They live in fear that at any time, they could be asked to leave or forcibly sent to a place they don't know or want to be. And with the history of the Jewish people, they should be ashamed of themselves.
In Europe, similar sentiments have been rearing their ugly heads toward refugees and immigrants. Greece, Italy, France, and Poland have all had a surge in efforts to reject the migration of those fleeing the most troubled and dangerous places on earth. German Chancellor Angela Merkel faced holy hell for opening her heart and borders to nearly a million asylum seekers running for their lives from places like Syria. Unfortunately, that has all changed. The lucky ones who survived their harrowing journeys to safety have come to realize they're no longer wanted. And there's no sugar-coating the message. It's GTFO and be quick about. Fortunately, the E.U. as a whole seems committed to a humanitarian response to the plight of refugees and immigrants facing dire straits. But unfortunately, a significant element in Europe now view Donald Trump's nationalistic rhetoric positively.
Bottom line: While America's rejection of the unwanted undocumented has yet to reach the point of what's happening in Myanmar (Burma) where that government has resorted to ethnic cleansing by any means necessary, one can envision Donald Trump's "Ideal Wall" being constructed with gun towers for snipers, electrified barbed wire and land mines sprinkled about to further discourage the desperate. Once a beacon of hope, America has become a hellhole of hate. And if my theory is correct, that hate could become America's number one export. Podcast below.
