Issues Under Fire: Michael "The Fixer" Cohen
One can only imagine the levels of pressure, anxiety, and stress Donald Trump is dealing with these days, as his personal problems mount by the minute. And when his personal attorney's home and offices were raided by the FBI, those levels had to spike beyond anyone's ability to handle it. Armed with a No Knock Warrant (a warrant impossible to obtain without serious probable cause), the FBI forced their way into Trump's self-proclaimed "fixer's" personal space looking for anything and everything they could find to implicate or connect Trump to wrongdoing. And knowing what Trump's "Fixer" knows about him, has to keep the 45th president awake at night if only wondering if his "Fixer" can be flipped. What's a Fixer, you ask? Think Michael Clayton with George Clooney, Ray Donovan with Liev Schreiber and Scandal with Kerry Washington.
Michael Clayton: Former prosecutor Michael Clayton (George Clooney) works as a "fixer" at the corporate law firm of Kenner, Bach, and Ledeen, and takes care of his employer's dirty work. Burned out and deep in debt, he is bound tightly to the firm. Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career when a guilt-ridden attorney (Tom Wilkinson) has a breakdown during a huge class-action lawsuit. Ray Donovan is a "fixer" for Hollywood's elite. He is the go-to guy that the city's celebrities, athletes, and business moguls call to make their problems disappear. And in Scandal, character Olivia Pope runs a crisis management firm, Olivia Pope & Associates (OPA). She handles your scandals. Yes, Fixers are the people that do the dirty work for the rich, the famous and the powerful. If you can afford one, as only the rich, the famous and the powerful can, you can live above the law.
Check this out:
If the Kennedy family had employed Fixers, do you think all the world would know of JFK's and RFK's hot sexual affairs with Marilyn Monroe? Do you think the ugly stories of how the last hours the blonde bombshell's life was spent with Bobby Kennedy would have ever seen the light of day? If the Kennedy family had a fixer, there would've been no salacious rumors of bed-hopping at the highest levels of government. And as for Bobby being in the room when Monroe gasped her last breath, a Fixer would've provided the randy panty chaser an ironclad alibi. Witnesses would place Bobby miles away with photos to prove it. And let's not forget Ted Kennedy. If anybody needed a "Fixer", it was Ted Kennedy. The revelations of his ten-hour delay in reporting an auto accident on Chappaquiddick Island that took the life of Mary Jo Kopechne forced him to decline a run for the presidency. A "Fixer" could've changed the course of history.
'Fixers" have friends in high places. Those who service the really Big Rich can get the cops to look the other way or delete police reports. They can get reporters to sit on or outright kill damaging stories. They can influence the most hardhearted of judges to be lenient and forgiving. But of course, if you've got a really good "Fixer", you'll never spend more than a few minutes in court, if any at all, let alone do any jail time. And while "Fixers" are expensive, they're a bargain at any price considering the type of trouble the rich, the famous and the powerful can afford to get themselves into. Remember, this is not the sixties. This is the era of Social Media. If your sh*t stinks, a "Fixer" will put the lid down before Social Media will get a whiff.
On the other hand, when it comes to 'Fixers", how do you know if you can trust them? "Fixers" know where all the bodies are buried because they dug the holes. 'Fixers" are making the payoffs, making the threats and in extreme cases, making people disappear. So, one can never know it the "Fixer" will decide someday that the blackmailing business is more lucrative. Or worse, one can never know if the "Fixer" will RAT someday. And, therein lies the latest source of Donald Trump's unprecedented pressure, anxiety, and stress. Will Michael "The Fixer" Cohen cooperate with the Mueller investigation? Or, will he keep his mouth shut and trust Trump will issue him a pardon? In my estimation, Donald Trump should be worried. Very worried. And here's why:
One would think a really good "Fixer" would want to keep what they do on the down-low. Advertising is actually bad for business. And someone providing "Fixer" services to a sitting president would be especially discreet about their relationship with this most special client. The fact that Donald Trump needs a "Fixer" says he's got serious sh*t to hide. Michael Cohen (the attorney) might just be a wannabe "Fixer". Perhaps he got caught up in the Hollywood depictions of what "Fixers" do. What if Mr. Cohen is one of those guys who lie about being a Navy SEAL until they have to fight somebody for real. Well, Donald Trump is about to find out, and that's why he's sh*tting bricks.
Bottom line: If Donald Trump is stressing this badly over the Robert Mueller FBI investigation, the entire world should be feeling that stress too. After all, Trump is responsible for managing the trade war he started with China, averting a nuclear war with North Korea, avoiding a direct military conflict with Russia inside Syria, while, at the same time, deciding whether or not to pick a fight with Iran. Having to confront these issues would be overwhelming for a sane president, let alone one being driven crazy wondering who might leak to the media, rat to the FBI or the next blonde bombshell to file a lawsuit. Still, it is entertaining watching Trump sweat. Podcast below.
