Issues Under Fire: Roseanne Barr May Fight Her Firing & She's Got Support
Yes, if Fox News' reporting is to be believed, Roseanne Barr, the queen of hateful Tweets and conspiracy theories is contemplating challenging ABC's cancellation of her show. Due to support, she's receiving from her huge fan base, Barr's latest Tweet suggests she's willing to put up a fight. And to be honest, after reviewing many of the vile comments posted by Barr's supporters since the story broke, I can understand why she'd ponder the possibility of rebooting the reboot. Think about it, no matter how disturbing, insulting, offensive, insensitive and racially divisive Barr's Tweets are, she still has a solid and faithful following. In fact, that may be why they watch her show so religiously in the first place. Roseanne Barr is speaking to them in a language they understand and they want more of it. Let's face it, this is America.
Roseanne Barr's gives a voice to rednecks and rowdies who wear dirty blue collars to work every day. Well, at least the ones who can pass regular drug test long enough to maintain gainful employment. Now, while I've never actually watched the program, I understand the Connor family represents a White America many upscale upwardly mobile and college-educated Americans would rather forget exist. These are the disappointments. These are the embarrassments. These are the deplorable types Hillary Clinton referred to during her bid for the presidency in 2016. Unfortunately, these deplorable types may be the fastest growing demographic in the country these days. So, perhaps it's true what many political analysts have concluded. Hillary Clinton simply miscalculated how many of the forgotten felt left out and ignored. If my theory has any validity at all, we could be in for one hell of a surprise.
Who's to say, ABC and its advertisers won't begin to receive as many demands for Roseanne Barr's return as they've gotten in support of her firing. If its all about money, and it always is, ABC and its advertisers may find themselves in quite a dilemma. After all, money talks and bullshit walks. If Barr's base of support is as strong and loyal as Donald Trump's has remained, the corporate giant might determine it acted rashly. ABC might conclude they too miscalculated what America's true values and principles are. As much as many would like to believe racism is on the wane in America, many more could be harboring hate-filled hearts. While many are doing all they can to combat racial bias, for all we know just as many, if not more could be embracing their biases and long-held prejudices. And we'll never know unless we're willing to test ourselves.
I say bring the show back. I say let free speech ring loudly and clearly all over this country. I say give Americans the opportunity to say whatever they please without the fear of being shamed into silenced by social media. Let's think this through. We all know these feelings and attitudes exist. And we know they run deep. What we don't know is how widespread they are. I think we can learn a lot more by letting people speak their minds openly on social media than we can by terminating their accounts. How else can we find out what people are really thinking? How else can we find out who these racist are? As long as people know they're gonna be treated like lepers for holding views the mainstream has determined to be abhorrent, loathsome and repulsive. Now, I can't speak for most, but I'd prefer knowing how much hate really exist in America, rather than just assuming things are getting better. Assuming can be dangerous.
On the other hand, we could be opening Pandora's box. What if we come to find that more people hate than we anticipated. What if we come to find that hate and racist views are not only on the rise but actually represent the majority. What if have to face the fact that America is no less racist than it was during the height of slavery. While I know this possibility seems unthinkable, I also know, according to AdWeek, Fox News has been Cable News' most-watched network for the last 16 years. And if one considers how consistently successful conservative talk radio has remained over the last two decades, when Liberal talk radio barely exists, one would be within reason to presume something ugly may be hiding in plain sight. As I said above, this is America and given its history, no one should be surprised.
Bottom line: America elected a morally corrupt, Philander and pathological liar. America knowingly chose an ignorant, narcissistic, egomaniac to be its leader. And America accepted a man with all these faults and more for one simple reason. Donald Trump spoke the same language to his supporters that Roseanne Barr speaks to hers. Like it or not, these two racist shares the same fan base and both are loved and admired for being just who they are. Podcast below.
BTW, I forgot to mention Roseanna Barr is now blaming Michelle Obama for being behind her firing. Go figure.
